Here are two segments of my set from the most recent Queer Country Junction, recorded live at the World Famous Kenton Club in north Portland. This was my first foray into recording a live set. There's much for me to learn from this experiment. Looking forward to doing this more often.
This portion includes my warm up set and much more.
You'll hear from:
Johnny Cash, Janie Fricke, George Strait, Johnny Paycheck, Linda Martell , Don Rich & the Buckeroos, Dobie Gray, Liz Anderson, The Marshall Tucker Band, Hoyt Axton, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Red Sovine, Lynn Anderson, Elton Britt, Kitty Wells, Hank Williams, Rose Maddox, Melba Montgomery, Jim Reeves, Charlie Rich, Tanya Tucker, Barbara Mandrell & David Houston, Buck Owens & Susan Raye, Lacy J. Dalton, Frankie Miller, Bonnie Lou, Jerry Lee Lewis, Crystal Gayle, Pee Wee King featuring the Trio, Skeeter Davis, Hal Willis
This portion includes among other things, a nod to the recently departed Percy Sledge as well as a mixture of country-soul, funky country, and country-funk and MORE!
Ruby Falls , Stoney Edwards, Barbara Fairchild, Rose Maddox, Otis Williams & the Midnight Cowboys, Flatt & Scruggs & the Foggy Mountain Boys, Bad Bascomb, Loretta Lynn & Conway Twitty, Percy Sledge, The Valentinos (featuring Bobby Womack), Charlie Rich, Loretta Lynn, Peggy Scott & Jo Jo Benson, Charlie Daniels, Dolly Parton, Ray Charles, Connie Eaton & Dave Peel, The Blue Boys
There's only so much you can say in a live dance party setting before your audience becomes impatient and wants to dance again. There's a lot more I would have liked to say about the interconnectedness of country music and soul music (as well as rhythm and blues and honky tonk/rockabilly) but that's better reserved for blogs and radio shows.
