Today's Record of the Day seems custom-made for the DJ Action Slacks library. My aim has always been to deliver some musical positivity to counteract whatever troubles people may be facing in their individual lives. My greatest joy is being able to share songs that have helped to carry me through difficult times. These days have seemed particularly turbulent for this country and the world at large. Sometimes we all need a little musical pick-me-up and this record is the perfect prescription.
This is a soul adaptation of a song from "Purlie," a 1970 musical based on a play written by the late great Ossie Davis. It is quite different from the version featured in the musical.
Part of what I find inspiring about this record is that it was recorded 40 years ago when Americans believed their world was crumbling around them. In times of great change things can often become violently combustible. It seems that in many ways we are echoing that era of the late 60s and early 70s right now. This song is a reminder that people made it through that time of strife. The key is to keep your hope alive, keep fighting the righteous fight, and keep pushing forward. Songs like this one can go a long way in feeding perseverance. Give it a listen.

I'm excited to highlight some of my favorite records in a variety of genres (soul, R&B, classic country, rockabilly, oldies, garage rock, etc). These won't all necessarily be "dance" records per se. They will all be records that I believe deserve a special listen. I simply love good music, rare or not. Hopefully you will spend some time here and love music right along with me! Lets give this a shot!
